A Time for Every Tide

Regardless of some recent high tides I have come to find a quiet sense of serenity in the calm amidst the storm. Those small moments where I can breathe deeply and time no longer holds such a significance. The instances in life where I just float. Not aimlessly float, but consciously release the tension amidst me. I feel as if I am far, far, away from everything the world pushes into my mind. I find these moments exist in greater abundance when I am living more simply, más tranquilo.
This weekend, we attended a race being held at the school we are staying at. They had both a 5K and a 10K. As you may have already concluded, we opted for the shorter distance and ran the 5K. Seeing as we hadn't given the event any serious thought until the night before, we went into the race excited and undaunted. We simply jogged through the start line, no furrowed brows or paced beginnings. We jogged along the open runway taking in the brisk morning air, surrounded by smiling faces, a man in a bird costume, and the fire truck that hosed people as they passed. We weren't pooped when the finish line came into view but I was excited for all the vendors that were waiting on the other side.
The sun was comfortably waiting and we bought our beloved maracumango bebida then finished off our food craze with some elote paired surprisingly nicely with Doritos. We spoke with some students in attendance, the conversation paused by, "Ah, how do you say..." gaps every now and again, but their kindness and patience with our Spanish abilities, never ceases to surprise me. We sat on a curb inhaling the delightfully delicious food before us and I was floating.
The tide was still. But this also contributes to my existence. The high and low tide. It seems however I was only aware of the need to steer amidst a storm. But just the same, when I adamantly view the ocean before me, with my eyes wide open, I also see when the waves have ceased. Like I said there are those instances, the calm, or low tides before me. I need take the time to enjoy those low tides too.
